"Donor restocking" uses a combination of surgical techniques to perform hair transplantation while at the same time limiting the depletion of the donor area. Since scalp hair typically gets the best results, and most patients feel that FIT is the overall best method to transfer scalp hair, Dr. Mwamba often opts to treat hair loss with FIT. The problem with FIT, and all transplant techniques, is that, eventually, the donor area cannot “give” any more hair without looking sparse or thinned out. A reasonable solution to the issue of supply and demand is a one-for-one transfer of scalp hair and body hair. That is, for every one scalp graft taken from the donor area to treat the balding or thinning recipient area, a body hair is harvested and placed in the void. In this the way the strongest hair source can go where it is needed the most – the top of the scalp – without cosmetically thinning the donor area on the back of the head.
