: Hair transplant corrections and repairs : MyWHTC April 12, 2008, 01:07:50 PM Hair transplant corrections and repairs require expertise on the aforementioned surgical techniques, technologies, and methodologies (see Surgical Hair Restoration / Hair Transplant Open Topic). Patient with substandard surgical results from other clinics are often the victims of poor surgical technique, antiquated technology, or unfavorable physiology. Patient that seek hair transplant repair from Dr. Mwamba often have 2 major complains: problematic scarring and unnatural looking grafts.
Problem donor scarring is typically the result of old open donor harvests (plugs) or wide strip scarring from poor closures. Some patient can improve the appearance of scarring by removing or revising the scar with the strip method. By removing an ellipse of scarred tissue, and then closing the wound under minimal tension with a double layer closure, a large scar (or scars) can often be removed, leaving a thinner and less noticeable scar. Other situations may require grafting scars, rather than removing them. This approach involves harvesting FIT grafts and placing these follicles into the scar tissue to “break up” the appearance of the scarring. Some patients will benefit from a dual approach, where the initial scar is reduced and the resulting scar is then grafted at a later time. Unnatural grafts are the result of less than cutting edge surgical techniques. While Dr. Mwamba prides himself on delivering natural and elegant result with refined grafts, not all clinics deliver the same high level of naturalness. For patients with unnatural looking growth, grafts revision or “plug redistributions” may be appropriate. The method includes removing, thinning, or de-bulking grafts that are too big and/or mismanaged. The goal, of course, is to restore a natural look. Although repairing hair transplant work from other clinics can be challenging work, Dr. Mwamba finds these procedures particular rewarding due the positive impact it has on patients. |
